Welcome to the Fairview Cemetery Home Page
Fairview Cemetery is located in Dickinson County Iowa two miles East of the South end of Terril.
In 1995 I undertook a project to get a list of all the inscriptions on the tombstones and make a map of where everyone was buried in the cemetery. This map and a list of where everyone is buried is now on display in a gazebo at the cemetery.
In 1998 it was felt that to help people searching for relatives it would be beneficial to add maiden names of the women to the list. Thanks to Archie Birt and Imogene Gardner we have over 400 maiden names. The next project is going to be adding parents names. If you know any of the parents of the people listed here please feel free to E-mail me.
HOW TO USE THIS INFORMATION
This file contains too much information to put on one page so we had to break it into two pages, both take a long time to load. The file contains everyone that is buried or owns a plot at Fairview. If there is is no DOD they probably have not died yet.
The Names page contains:
1. Map number: This is the plot where each individual is buried. To find where a person is buried in the cemetery, go to the map page and locate the corresponding number.
2. Last name: This is in alphabetical order.
3. First name:
4. Maiden name:
5. DOB: This information is listed as yr/mo/day. This was done so I could sort this information by years or to see who was born in a certain month.
6. DOD: This information is listed as yr/mo/day. This was done so I could sort this information by years or to see who was born in a certain month.
7. Veteran: If the person was a veteran it states which war he or she served in.
The inscription page contains:
1. Only the people that have inscription on their headstones.
2. Map number: This is the plot where each individual is buried. To find where a person is buried in the cemetery, go to the map page and locate the corresponding number.
3. Last name: This is in alphabetical order.
4. First name:
5. Inscription: Some of the inscriptions were long. Some of them list the names of their children which might be of some use.
Other information:
1. All names are sorted by Last Name then Map #. This puts husband and wife closer together on the list.
2. Map # 11 is listed as Plotters Field. This is where they buried people that no one knew who they were.
3. ? We found an old map of the cemetery that had x's mark on it that did not have a headstone so we can only assume that someone is buried their. In other cases there were markers unreadable or with no name on them.
Another good source of information will be the Terril Centennial History Book. I hope that it will be done this year. We want to make it searchable so you can just type in the name of the person you are looking for and find every where in the book he is listed. The Terril American Legion page has a list of its members names and the minutes dating back to 1920. These will be on the Terril Home Page.
